“Archer House” is a category 1 New Zealand Heritage Home, with outstanding historical significance to the West Coast, created by lead lighting masterpieces, fireplaces and antique furniture.

“Archer House” perfectly complements your memorable West Coast experience, offering three large bedrooms, all with there own ensuites. Bathrooms have hairdryers, heated towel rail, and underfloor heating. The Ivory Room has a king-size double bed, the Red Room has a king-size double bed and a single bed, the Green Room has a king-size double and a single bed.

“Archer House” is the ideal accommodation for anyone who wishes to relax in a spacious idyllic setting to experience its history and its charms. You will be welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine or your very own pamper pack (additional cost) and wake up to a sumptuous breakfast set out in our conservatory dining room, chatting with your hosts Jackie and Charles.

“Archer House” is a short stroll to all town amenities including Victoria Square, shops, restaurants, and supermarkets.The Kawatiri River Trail is also close by, which takes you to the Westport Domain, or through the historic town centre and harbour, crossing boardwalks to the Buller River Mouth.

Your Hosts; Jackie and Charles Bruning have a long association with the Buller District and have been managing Archer House for its owner Paul Archer for thirteen years. Jackie arrived in Westport with her parents, who immigrated from England in the 1950s. Her working career has been mostly in accounting/bookkeeping, and of latter years in the hospitality industry in catering. Jackies interests are overseas travel, bridge and gardening.
Charles is a fifth-generation West Coaster, brought up on the family farm at Carters Beach. He has a strong affiliation to the land, its history, and its beauty. As a retired Photojournalist his interests are world travel, photography, and in preserving the West Coasts unique heritage, from the arrival of the first Polynesians to New Zealand in the thirteenth century, to the arrival of Europeans. As hosts, Jackie and Charles welcome you to Archer House where you will enjoy a unique experience of staying in a Category 1 New Zealand Heritage Home, where you can relax in a spacious idyllic setting to experience its history and its charm.

Walk across historic Victoia Square to the Passive Gardens. Walk the Kawatiri river trail along Westport’s waterfront to the North Beach or visit the Westport Domain. Visit Coaltown and learn how Gold, Coal, Cement, and timber has built New Zealand. Must see and do.

Discover Denniston & The Buller Bay
Drive the beautiful stretch of coastline between Westport & Mokihinui River where you can find the start of the Old Ghost Road – walking & biking track. In the Hills are the past and present coal mining areas of Stockton, Millerton, and Denniston, or sit back and take a four-wheel drive tour with OutWest. Must do and see.

Discover Carters Beach, Cape Foulwind & Tauranga Bay
Discover the rugged coastline south of Westport. With stunning sandstone and granite headlands first sighted by Able Tasman in 1642. Tauranga Bay is world renowned for its seal colony and surfing beaches. Just minutes from Westport is Carters Beach with its 5 kilometers of untouched sandy beach. Must do and see.

Discover Charleston
Discover the old gold mining town of Charleston. Half an hours drive south of Westport, which once had a population in the thousands, boasting over 100 hotels with one of these belonging to Robert Taylor the first owner of historic Archer House. Must do and see.

Discover Reefton
The historic town of Reefton located in the Inangahua Valley, cradled by forested hills at the terminus of roads leading from Lewis Pass, Westport, and Greymouth.
The town has many historic buildings left still intact from its gold mining days. Reefton was the first town in the Southern Hemisphere to reticulate its electricity. Must do and see. Heritage tours and buildings, Museums, Historic buildings, Mountain biking, Walking tracks, Trout fishing, Hunting, Bearded Miners Hut, Swimming.
