Matuka 001Matuka Lodge is set in peaceful surroundings only 3.5 kilometres from the tourist town of Twizel, gateway to Mount Cook National Park and situated half way between Christchurch and Queenstown.

Our rooms have views across the trout pond to the Southern Alps and the wider Mackenzie Country and right next door to the property that some of the filming for the Lord of the Rings movie took place.

There is free parking and free Wi-Fi is in all areas of the Lodge. Just sit back and relax or we can book for you the many activities that you can participate in .

We are close to great fishing rivers, golf course, Alps2Ocean cycle trail and so much more. At Matuka the big skies that are the Mackenzie Country allow you to see the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve without interruption of street lights.

We greet you with an aperitif and show you to your room, allowing the privacy of the Lodge for our guests as we live offsite. We offer a complimentary full breakfast for our guests If you have any particular food requests we will do our very best to provide these. Both our deluxe and superior king rooms have their own en-suite bathroom, the deluxe has a double spa bath with amazing views. Each room has a patio overlooking the large pond, feed the fish and the ducks or just take in the breathtakingly beautiful scenery.

Wouldn’t it be the perfect start to your holiday to be greeted with open arms by your friendly hosts? To be offered a sumptuous breakfast with a small aperitif? And picture yourself after a long, eventful day relaxing on your North Facing deck, sharing a fine wine with friends under the watchful gaze of the Southern Alps.

Peter and Jo your hosts will provide a fabulous continental breakfast and an aperitif on your arrival. We suggest at least a two night stay, so you’ll have time to enjoy the experiences unique to this beautiful corner of New Zealand.

At the end of the day, imagine yourself sitting on the deck sharing a convivial drink with your hosts and other guests, while watching the trout send ripples across the mirror surface of the pond, as the setting sun illuminates the mountains.
