maple lodgePaul has a long relationship with New Zealand, arriving here nearly 25 years ago and deciding to call it home ever since. In 2005 we (Paul, Berny and Mini our dog) took a road trip through New Zealand before finding our perfect spot and building our stunning Wanaka home – Maple Lodge. We were drawn to the location by its spectacular views of the Southern Alps, the beautiful maple trees and all only minutes to Lake Wanaka. The maple trees instantly gave our home its name of Maple Lodge long before we started building and they continue to delight us throughout the seasons with changes of colours giving way to the stark branches and the ever present amazing view beyond them. These days, Paul spends his time looking after the lodge and grounds including his new hobby – an apiary. The bees are fascinating and this year we will be able to add our own honey to our breakfast menu. Berny keeps an eye on the chickens, looks after the roses and the fruit production for jam making, enjoys photography as a hobby and keeps up to date with current trends to ensure your comfort during your stay with us. We have both spent many years travelling the world for business and leisure and in doing so gathered concepts and designs for the perfect home away from home that has materialized in Maple Lodge. Along the way we have met many people from all walks of life who have remained firm friends. We love to share our passion for this beautiful place we have chosen to call home. We are sure the stunning surroundings, our comfortable accommodation and our welcoming hospitality will make you feel like you have found the perfect place to stay too.
MapleMaple Lodge is set in its own private park like garden with a plantation of sugar maple trees,

Whether it’s on the land, the lake or by air your choice of activities in Wanaka and the surrounding area are almost endless. We suggest staying for 2 or more nights to give you the opportunity to explore. Ask about our suggested itineraries and we can help you plan your activities to get the most out of your stay in this delightful region.maple lodge

On land you can enjoy everything from walking, biking, shopping, a round of golf to horse riding. If you want to explore the local vineyards we are a short drive to the Bannockburn region or we can arrange a wine tour for you. For the adrenalin junkies Bungy Jumping is within 45 mins drive or you could stop off at the Highland Motorsport Park for a hot lap or a be a speed demon on their go-kart track.  And not forgetting 3 great snow areas for fantastic winter skiing , snowboarding, cross country or dog sledding. maple lodge

Wanaka has a vibrant café and restaurant scene. All tastes and budgets are catered for from great gelato ice cream to fine dining. We have 2 quirky cinemas, a climbing wall and a couple of museums for you to explore too.

On the lake one of our favourite trips is to Mou Wahou Maple LodgeIsland – the lake on an island on a lake on an island in the middle of the ocean (recently seen on the TV show 72hours). Take the trip – and see it for yourself. A jetboat ride along the Matukituki river will bring you into Hobbit and Lord of the Rings scenery and the included bush walk will give you a taste of this region’s outstanding natural landscape. Otherwise there are fishing trips, kayaking or for the more adventurous parascending. maple lodge

With Wanaka airport close by there are opportunities for a flying lesson, skydiving, a classic flight in a tiger moth or take a flight-seeing trip to Mt Cook, Milford Sound or the Lake Wanaka area. And don’t forget, Maple Lodge has plenty of space for a helicopter to land if you fancy a charter flight to wherever your imagination takes you.
