The town's location at the centre of North Island makes Taupo the ideal place to stay for day trips to the many attractions in the region.

To the south is Tongariro National Park with the famous Alpine Crossing and the mountains dominated by Mount Ruapehu. To the west are the Waitomo Caves renowned for the limestone formations and black water rafting.
Take a cruise on the lake, maybe hire a sailboat, go bungee jumping, skydiving or take an aeroplane to go sightseeing around the Volcanic Plateau.
